South London rapper Tinie Tempah really rose to prominence in 2010 with his debut album Disc-Overy which straight to number one, having spawned the singles “Pass Out”, “Written in the Stars”, “Frisky” and “Miami 2 Ibiza”.
However, Tinie, real name Patrick Okogwu, was already on the radar of fans who know their stuff, having produced an underground hit with the 2006 single “Wifey”.
But 2010 was truly Tinie Tempah’s breakthrough year, with a series of mini-tours alongside the likes of Rihanna, Tinchy Stryder, fellow rapper Chipmunk, a record deal with Parlophone, countless hours of airplay on MTV and some big live performances at the Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium, T4 On The Beach, the Wireless Festival in London’s Hyde Park and the V Festival.
The release of the singles “Frisky” and “Written in the Stars” – in June and September respectively – added to Tinie Tempah’s annus mirabilis in 2010, with “Written in the Stars” hitting number one just as the album Disc-Overy hit stores.
Big bit things are expected for Tinie Tempah in 2011.
